As soon as I’d been on Level 1 training, I realised I was nowhere near fit enough for the race, and that was back in March (you can read about that here). When it got to 1 year pre-race, August 2016, I decided I needed to make a real effort to get fit – not that you need to be an Olympian to do the race, but the all-round advice is that the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience which is a bit obvious.
My personal goals are to be as fit as physically possible by the time I leave, and in particular, to shift excess fat and increase my upper body and core strength.
I am following a fitness and strength programme with JustGym until I set sail to try and make these goals happen, and recording my progress on the blog here, trying to get myself from injured and unfit to strong and lean!
