Simplify your life

As we are now in race year and race start is just over 6 months away (gulp), everything is beginning to get a lot more real, and there is a lot more pressure to get sh*t done. Everything from being as strong and flexible as I can be, to learning knots, to (hilariously) learning to sail, are now a lot more pressing.

Currently, I am working a 55 hour week over 6 days, across 3 jobs to save money for the trip (and associated travel/kit/insurance costs), training and exercise 5 times a week, and cycling everywhere as my main mode of transport (I would say through choice but since I crashed my car into a ditch just before Christmas, that is no longer optional) so the time I have to sleep/eat/live outside of those commitments is pretty limited. SO, I’ve decided that in order to achieve my goals, I need to simplify my life.

This is mainly to give myself breathing space to relax but also to free up time. For me, the motivation and drive is there, but actually, the time is what is missing – I need time to read my “Dummies Guide to Sailing” (not sarcasm); time to practice tying knots; time to get out on the water. I’m finding myself choosing between for example, practising my knots or going to sleep at a reasonable time, so over the next few weeks I’ll be simplifying my life in these simple ways to get some more ‘free’ time back in my life;

Single minded goal – this year for me is all about the boat and will be my priority

Getting rid of crap – clear your clutter, clear your mind (also have less choices)

Saying No – Not filling my calendar with things don’t have the time for

Screen Time – reading (books) not scrolling
